Faith Over Fear: Transitioning to College

DAY 7 OF 10

God Knows Our Limits

College is grueling at times, and the work can seem never ending. That feeling is very real, but you will come out of that hard class (and your whole college experience) smarter and stronger. Perseverance is the key. The first semester of freshman year, I wanted to transfer to a school in my hometown. With the help of others and God, I overcame that feeling and grew to love college. It was not easy, though. I struggled with my feelings every day, but in the end, the positive aspects about where I was, prevailed over the negative aspects. I trained my mind by feeding it positive thoughts. I knew that God was with me always. I knew that I was immensely blessed for the ability to attend such a great school. I knew that I had people who loved me. I knew that the people from home were just a phone call away. I found security in these statements and was able to shift my mindset. My circumstances were 100 times better than I originally perceived them, and this new environment had so much to offer. Transitions take time. I accepted that fact, worked on what I could, and made the most of my freshman year.

Keep in mind that struggles are relative. I know that my transition to college, while very hard at times, pales in comparison to other issues of the world, but it does not diminish the validity of my emotions. Your struggles and feelings are important and deserve to be recognized. You should never feel guilty about the way you feel, no matter what else is happening around you. Find people who you can open up to and who will accept your circumstances and emotions for what they are.

God knows how much we can handle. He wants us to adapt and persevere. Sometimes we may feel overwhelmed, but God will never allow our souls to be crushed, driven to despair, forsaken, or destroyed. He will keep us. Accept new challenges. Treat them as a direct message from God telling you to push yourself. You can persevere through it all, and you will come out a stronger person for it.

Jesus persevered through so much while on Earth. He took on our humanity to deliver us from our sinning nature, and in doing so, he proved to us that we are capable of more than we think. Jesus walked in our shoes and showed us that we are able.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, You know how much we can handle. Bless us with a clear mind when faced with challenges. We are able to do more than we think. Just when we want to give up, show us a sign and send us Your love so that we can persevere, knowing that we will come out stronger than we were. Thank You for not giving us more than we can handle, and thank You for being a loving Father. Amen.
