P.S. It's Gonna Be Good - How God's Word Answers Our Questions About Faith, Fear and All the Things

DAY 2 OF 6

Where’s God?

When you’re blindsided by bad news, hit in the gut by a curveball that came out of nowhere, and scrambling to catch your balance after the rug’s been pulled out from under you in way that leaves you wondering, where’s God?, it’s time to flip to 2 Kings 6.

One night, Elisha went to bed in peace; the next morning, his servant got up early and went outside only to be met with enemy troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city (6:15).

Yet while the servant cries in complete helplessness, “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” (6:15), Elisha quickly responds, “don’t be afraid! For there are more on our side than on theirs!” (6:16).

When you too have problems pressing in on every side, let this truth sink deep down into every crevice of your soul. Immediately after Elisha prayed, “‘O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” (6:17), God opened the servant’s eyes, “and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire” (6:17).

Here’s the deal: God’s presence surrounded Elisha and his servant as they slept peacefully the night before and when their enemy camped out on the nearby hillside just as the rooster crowed. Circumstances looked worse the next morning, but spiritually speaking, the circumstances remained the same.

Elisha saw the army too, but he also saw so much more. He could see the whole picture—physically and spiritually—but his servant could not.

Are you looking at the whole picture? Or are you lasering in on merely the circumstances surrounding you?

Today, “set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2, NIV), and ask the Lord to open your eyes to see His help encircling you from all sides. Certainly, “he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go” (Psalm 91:11), and just like with Elisha, that backing really is all you need.
