Serving God in Career and Ministry
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
—Colossians 3:23–24 (NIV)
God has created you to be resourceful, creative, and productive. No matter your age, you still have something to contribute and something to share with the world. You will have a sphere of influence where you can make a difference, every day until you are no longer here on this earth.
Be encouraged! Even when disappointments come up in terms of your career, volunteering, or ministering, you don’t have to remain stuck in that place. Get up and seek the information, education, and other resources you need to be successful. Everything you need, God will give to you.
We were created to be creators. He is our creator and if we are created in His image, we are created to be creative. But there are times when we are called to a specific job or workplace, which may not feel like we are using our creativity, and yet it may be where God has placed us for our sphere of influence. It’s worth evaluating whether you are there in that role for a purpose. It may be that your creativity can be explored through a hobby, ministry, or volunteer opportunities. Ask yourself questions about whether it is time to seek another job, or to stay where you are but find other avenues for growth outside of work.
We bring God's kingdom way of living into our community through our areas of influence, and that includes our career. For this reason, we are called to work as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23–24). Ultimately, we are serving Christ wherever we go, including our job.
Decide that you will continue to leave an impact on the world through your career or ministry. Do something extra each day that is not asked of you.
Three godly affirmations for today:
