The Now Generation Leader

DAY 9 OF 14

Feedback

Can you remember a time when a leader complimented your work? What did they say, and how did they say it? This leader most likely didn’t insult you or scold you for all the things you could have done better. Communication is a key part of leading people. The words you say and the time you deliver them can either push people away or bring them closer to you.

There is a time and place for every conversation. As a leader, it’s important to know the appropriate time for each conversation. How you speak to the people around you and beneath you says more about your character than you realize. The tone of your voice leaves a bigger impact than the words you say.

Ephesians 4:29 reminds us that we should stray from abusive language and speak helpful and encouraging words.

If you ever find yourself wondering if you should say what you’re thinking, imagine someone saying the same thing to you. Will the information build up them up or tear them down? Being clear and patient when you’re upset will help prevent negativity.

As a leader, you will also receive feedback. Remind yourself often that you always have room for improvement, and use feedback as an opportunity to grow as a leader and individual. Be slow to anger when receiving feedback you may not agree with or when the person delivering the feedback is someone you aren’t on good terms with.

Challenge: A leader will think before they speak and take feedback with an open mind. Make a list of encouraging phrases you could give someone who needs some positive guidance.

About this Plan

The Now Generation Leader

As a young adult, you are not the leader of tomorrow. You are the leader of today. In this 14-day plan, the Life.Church LeadershipXP team will provide practical, biblical advice to help young leaders develop into the leader Christ has created them to be. Each day includes a practical challenge aimed to help put what you learn through your reading into practice.
