Come to the Feast!

DAY 5 OF 7

You can’t come to God’s feast without accepting His offer of forgiveness

“When the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness.’” (Matthew 22:11-13)

Every human is invited to God’s feast. It doesn’t matter which country you are from, what kind of job you have, or how old you are. The only thing that counts is to accept Jesus’ invitation and His ‘entrance requirements.’ You need to repent from your sins and accept God’s offer of forgiveness. Then God will see you as pure and holy, ready to celebrate with Him!

In Matthew 22, Jesus tells a story to illustrate this point. It’s about a king organizing a wedding feast. When the wedding hall is finally filled with guests, one man offends the king by not making an effort to change clothes. He is removed from the banquet.

To understand this, let’s read Isaiah 61:10. “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord ... for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation; He has covered me with the robe of righteousness”. The man in the story who did not wear a wedding garment is symbolic of people who want to enter heaven on their own terms, by their own efforts, instead of accepting the “robe of righteousness” that Jesus offers them. That’s impossible!

Are you ready to acknowledge that you can’t be in God’s presence as you are? Do you accept His gift of righteousness?
