You Don't Have Time For...

DAY 7 OF 7

We don't have time for…the temporary things of this world

"The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever." (1 John 2:17, NIV)

Everything, really everything, implied in our day and age by the term "successful"—whether it's "the job," beauty, or possessions—will pass away! Everything. It will definitely pass away.

I found this thought unimaginable a few years ago, but it's not so unimaginable to me anymore. When COVID-19 suddenly paralyzed the whole world, it showed us how quickly life could change. So when I read in the Bible today, "The world and its desires pass away," it was much easier for me to believe it because I've already seen it in another form—when the world, as we know it, was shut down.

We have experienced it: the world was shut down.

We will experience it: the world will pass away.

Wikipedia describes desire as "a mental drive to remedy a subjective experience of lack with an associated craving to appropriate an object or condition that appears suitable to remedy that lack."

Why do people want a good job, beauty, or property? Because they want security, security for the future! But what about when the world passes away? Then the job, the house, and the beauty pass away with it.

God has given us the solution: all we need can be found in Him. Yes, the only thing that lasts forever is what you have in and through God!

"'Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost…Give ear and come to Me; listen, that you may live…the Holy One of Israel…has endowed you with splendor.'" (from Isaiah 55:1, 3, 5, NIV)

You yourself would never be able to satisfy your lack on this Earth—no matter what it consists of—in the long run. That's why God is calling you to Himself today…"Are you focusing on temporary things? Come, I have what you need. Listen to Me and draw near. You will live forever, and I will endow you with splendor!"

You are a miracle!
