How to Overcome LustSample

Amnon knew that his feelings for Tamar were inappropriate, but he did not go to the right people for help. He went to his cousin Jonadab, who gave him terrible advice. Amnon listens to Jonadab, and forces Tamar to lie with him.

In the same manner, the devil will put people in your life who will give crazy advice. Like Jonadab, your friends may tell you to pretend. So, when a David (or church leader) asks how you are doing, you will avoid honesty, transparency, and being truthful in order to protect your lust so it will continue growing. Friends like this will advise you to do wrong and they will prevent you from telling your leaders about your lust problems because they do not want you to get help. The enemy will use fake friends to lie to you that you are in control of your lust and passions.

Bad company corrupts good habits. Some of you will be delivered if you simply remove toxic people from your life.

God will surround you with mentors because you can overrule your nature through nurture. The nature of lust can be broken through your associations. You need community. Be vulnerable with the Christian people around you: leaders, parents, men, and women of God. Develop Christian friendships.

You cannot be pure in a vacuum; you can only be pure in a community.

Fight against the lust.

Do not let it control you.

You were fashioned by God to possess your passions. Make a choice to submit to God and surround yourself with a Christian community that will help you live in purity.

Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, I want to live in purity, but my current friends do not help me. Place people in my life who will keep me accountable and help me to overcome lust, so together we can live in purity. Amen.
