Leaving a Legacy

DAY 2 OF 3

If you’ve wronged anyone, make it right.

If you have wronged individuals in your life and haven't set things right with them, you still have time. We may make mistakes because we are human, but we should be compassionate enough to make restitution as soon as we can. Never should we allow the devil the opportunity to ruin the legacy God has for us. When others ask him, "Whose ox or donkey have I stolen?" Samuel provides a list. Have any of you ever been deceived by me? Have I ever made you feel ill? Have I ever tainted justice by accepting a bribe? Tell me, and I'll make good on any mistakes I make. “No, you have never accepted even one bribe, and you have never deceived or oppressed us,” they retorted (1 Samuel 12:3-4). Samuel was aware that he had done no wrong before his death. What a gift it is to know you made the right decision!

Samuel was willing to make amends if he had offended someone in addition to holding himself accountable to the people. Because none of us are flawless, we must rely on Christ for ongoing sanctification. You don't have to be flawless to keep up a good reputation. All you have to do to fix mistakes is be willing to do so. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus offered the following advice: If you are offering a sacrifice at the Temple altar and suddenly realize that a person has anything against you, put your offering there at the altar. Make amends with that person. Come then, and present your offering to God (Matthew 5:23-24).

So, if you have done something wrong, make up with them immediately, and don't be egotistical; instead, ask for forgiveness and make an apology. Go and make amends. Creating a legacy takes time and effort. You must always emulate Christ and abide by His teachings and directives. You'll be able to complete your race in Christ Jesus with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
