Real Hope: The Wonder of the Lord's Creation

DAY 4 OF 5

The Creator of the Moon and Stars

Like many, I watched in awe as NASA released its first James Webb Space Telescope images. The image was of a tiny sliver of the universe, yet in this one image were hundreds of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, totalling numbers we haven’t even created numbers for.

As I reflected on those images, I was reminded of Psalm 19:1, ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands’ (NIV). Less than a hundred years ago, we first discovered that our universe wasn’t just our galaxy, and now look where we are. The more we develop technologies that enable us to explore the vastness of space, the more we discover how little we really know.

The same is true as we discover more of God. The universe's wonders are being uncovered layer by layer, and our human minds are scrambling to comprehend quite what we see. What a marvellous and humbling place to be.

How amazing that God could create a universe that, even after thousands of years, we have only scratched the surface of discovering. It’s a profound analogy of not just the awesomeness of God but of our own very human limitations.

The creator of the stars chooses to walk with us, care for and love us. How incredible is that?

About this Plan

Real Hope: The Wonder of the Lord's Creation

When a sculptor or artist creates something, they imprint part of who they are into the thing they’re creating – that’s what makes these items so precious and incredible – they carry the essence of their creator within them. This is true of the world that God created – we can see Him in every created thing. Join us in this plan as we take a different aspect of God’s incredible creation and explore a little more of what it says about who God is and how that truth impacts our lives.
