Let’s Pray

DAY 1 OF 5

Vamos a Orar

Jesus told His disciples that He would build His church and the gates of Hades would not prevail against it. The local church is meant to be the hope of the world. God calls us to reach those who are far from Him, to love those who are unlovable, to bring hope to the hopeless, to shine His light to those in darkness, and to bring joy to those who do not have any joy. We are called to share the story of redemption.

Prayer is the secret ingredient that helps the church be an unstoppable force. Let’s pray. In Spanish, that phrase is “Vamos a orar.” It’s something I heard often as a child. Every time I busted my ankle, scraped my arm, or got a boo-boo, I’d run over to my mom. She’d say, “Niño, ven aquí, vamos a orar.” Come here, child, let’s pray. I would roll my eyes and say, “Mom, I don’t need prayer. I need a bandage to stop the bleeding.” I was so ignorant at the time.

I didn’t really understand prayer. Maybe that’s how you feel, too. Maybe you think it doesn’t really work, that it is just words that you say to look spiritual before others, or that it is just a big waste of time. But prayer is what God has given us to communicate with Him. It is what He wants the local church to do. God says, “Call to Me, and I will hear you. Call to Me, and I will answer you. I’m listening. I’m waiting for you to call on Me.” Let’s pray. Vamos a orar.

Prayer is the secret ingredient that makes the local church an unstoppable force. In Matthew 21:13, Jesus said, “My house will be called a house of prayer.” What if we begin to pray, not just individually, but corporately as a church? What would God do in our communities, cities, and nation? Let’s pray. Vamos a orar.
