Alpha and Omega

DAY 1 OF 3

What is Alpha and Omega?

Have you ever wondered what "Alpha and Omega" meant? What did Jesus mean by this? And what does it mean for my life?

Most descriptions of God are distinctly Hebraic, but this one is not. When Jesus declares Himself the Alpha, He is saying that He is the first, the primary, and the most significant. He is above and has the highest status of all, whether Jew or Greek.

It is amazing that in the Book of Revelation, God the Father only speaks twice, and both times He declares Himself the Alpha and Omega.

God is saying that He is the first and foremost above everyone and everything. He is the extreme end of all things, and He exists in everything in between. Jesus declares this same title at the beginning and again at the end of the Book of Revelation.

And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. —REVELATION 22:12–13

Jesus is before all and after all. He was there before the beginning and will be there after the end. He is the capstone of all time, space, and dimension. He is before and after. There is great inner power and strength that fills us as we focus on Jesus as the Alpha and Omega. He and He alone is preeminent above and over all things.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him, all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him, all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. —COLOSSIANS 1:15–18

I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”—REVELATION 1:10–11
