Real Hope: Discovering Hope in the Life of David

DAY 3 OF 5

David Leads With Joy-Filled Worship

David leads his people in joy-filled worship of his God in the procession. This is not some formal exercise, but worship deep within his heart that flowed out through every bit of David’s body. David is dancing and he doesn’t seem to care that it might seem undignified. When David’s wife Michal questions him about behaviour below the dignity of a king, he responds: ‘I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes...’ (2 Samuel 6:22a).

Often, we are inhibited in our worship by what others might think of us. What will people think if I lift my hands in worship, or clap my hands? But we need to always remember that when we worship, we focus on an audience of One. It doesn’t really matter what others think. But it matters greatly what God thinks of our worship. God is looking at our heart and its motivations, and the reason why we do what we do.

May we always be more aware of His presence in our worship, than the presence of those around us.

‘You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness’ (Psalm 30:11 NKJV).

About this Plan

Real Hope: Discovering Hope in the Life of David

A series by Heidi Wysman. David was anointed king at the tender age of 17, but only sat on the throne at 30. That’s a long gap but during those years David learned how to handle crises, love his enemies, honour authority, do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with his God. It was an important refining and training time. By the time David became king of Israel, his security was firmly rooted in God’s goodness and justice. God had proved Himself to be faithful time and again in the past, and now David’s confidence in God was unshakable.
