Twelve Names of Christ for Christmas

DAY 12 OF 12

THE ALPHA AND OMEGA

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last” (Revelation 22:13).

Jesus Christ fulfilled all of the prophecies about the coming Messiah. Through Christ, God’s plan has been successfully completed:

“The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 11:15)

Several verses in the book of Revelation declare this title of Alpha and Omega for the Lord Jesus, including Revelation 21:6:

“And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.”

Alpha (A) is the English translation of the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega (Ω) designates the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Jesus Christ holds the title “Alpha and Omega” because He is the beginning and the end, meaning He is eternal: He always has been and always will be.

Jesus also declared Himself to John on the isle of Patmos with this title:

“I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last” (Revelation 1:11).

When John saw the Lord Jesus Christ in His beauty and majesty and holiness, he “fell at his feet as dead.” (Revelation 1:17) We would do the same if we had one glimpse of Him. What a comfort to know we can place the timeline of our life in the secure hands of the Alpha and Omega.

“Then the Lord laid His right hand upon John and said, “Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:17–18).

Our Alpha and Omega is alive forevermore and reigns over each day of our lives!

Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, Savior, The Lamb of God, The Light of the World, The Good Shepherd, The Alpha and Omega—this is our Jesus—worthy of celebration today and forever!
