Simply Living

DAY 14 OF 15

I love seeing church families provide for each other. Recently, I enjoyed seeing my church family providing meals for someone who had an operation. This instance reminded me afresh how grateful I am to be part of a community where people watch out for each other.

Two of the most wonderful expressions of Christian fellowship are hospitality and generosity. Ephesians 5:19 says we should speak “to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord...”

Another experience of church community we should see more of is exhorting each other to turn our eyes to God, because in doing so, we are turning each other away from foolishness and sin. Proverbs 27:17 tells us “Iron sharpens iron.” As brothers and sisters in Christ, we should guide each other into greater maturity. We are taught to pray for each other, bear each others’ burdens, and cover each others’ backs. How wonderful to be part of this community of believers.

Response: Let’s try out a few actions that express our love and commitment to members of our Christian fellowship. These might include telling someone what you appreciate about them or their work, sharing your existing friendships by drawing in new members of your church, remembering to pass on to others what God has recently spoken to you. Doing this will hopefully help encourage others in their gratitude and worship of God, to listen more instead of talking, or to invite someone new to lunch.

About this Plan

Simply Living

The more we pursue God, the more we want to strip away the clutter that distracts us from Him. This collection of studies, compiled and adapted from writing by  Tearfund contributor Sarah Wiggins, has been brought together to help us to consider what it means to truly (and simply) live life in all its fullness.
