Seek Your City's Good

DAY 4 OF 11

Spreading Jesus’ love

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31)

The people living in your city are pretty literally your “neighbors.” So, they are certainly included in Jesus’ command to love others as ourselves.

We love to have peace. Let’s try to live in peace with the people in our block. Pray for peace among different people groups in your city. Maybe you can get involved in politics or social work to promote peace at these levels.

Most of us love to have friends. Maybe you can be a friend to someone in your apartment building who is lonely. Maybe you can invite people over for dinner when they recently moved to your city and don’t know anyone.

We want to be treated respectfully and justly. Practice Jesus’ love by approaching others with this attitude, regardless of their social position, profession, or ethnic background.

I could continue this list with more examples, but you can certainly think of ways to show the love that fits best in your situation. Take Jesus’ own words as a general rule:

“Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them” (Matthew 7:12).

About this Plan

Seek Your City's Good

As Christians, we are not at home in this world. Instead, “our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). We are exiles and strangers here. What does this mean for our daily lives? How are we to act in the city and nation we are living in? This reading plan helps you find out.
