Should I Fear Ghosts and Evil Spirits?

DAY 6 OF 8

Stay away from dark powers, live in the light!

“What fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)

As a Christian, you are walking in the light. This light of God can’t share the same room with spiritual darkness.

In Paul’s day, society was filled with idol worship. And although Paul knew that these idols were not real gods, he took the underlying spiritual reality very seriously. “When food is sacrificed to idols, it is an offering to demons, not to God”, he says. Therefore, Christians can’t participate in festivals and holidays devoted to idols: “I don’t want you to share anything with demons” (1 Corinthians 10:19-20, ERV).

This same spiritual reality is present in practices like astrology, hand reading, looking into crystal balls to predict the future, or healing methods based on occult powers. On the surface, these may seem harmless. But it is dangerous to get involved in these things because they bring you in touch with dark spiritual powers. Stay away from them!

In Paul’s day, not participating in idol worship could had consequences for Christians. Some were persecuted for abandoning the traditional Roman religion. Others were excluded from their families or jobs. Maybe you lose friends if you don’t join their occult games. Maybe people make fun of you for being so ‘fearful’. But really, you don’t have a choice here. Living in the light, you can’t have fellowship with darkness.
