Song:“Como Te Amamos” How We Love You
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
As I reflected upon the song “Como Te Amamos” I could not help but analyze my love for God. Is my love for God a response of how good He has been towards me or is it solely based on who He is? The greatest commandment Jesus declared is to“Love the Lord with all of your heart, mind, and soul”. Simply said, we should love God with every fiber of our being, with no reservations and leaving nothing out of the equation. Our love for God should be the driving force of how we live our day to day lives. Our decision making, relationship building, conflict resolution, and even family structures should all be prime examples of our love for God.
In Philippians 3:8, Paul writes “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ." Paul’s words were a declaration of his love for Christ. He wanted everyone to know that nothing mattered in comparison to Christ. His career, his family, his friends, his ministry, nor any of his past accomplishments, could surpass the value of being able to achieve his single goal, obtaining Christ. We should ensure to live in such a way that our love for God be always on display. Let the way that we speak, walk, and behave, be a portrayal of God’s love. A portrayal of God’s overwhelming love which we encounter over countless stories and scriptures in the Bible. His unconditional love embraces us, fills us, and accompanies us. The incalculable love of The Creator for His creation. A love that makes us come to the understanding that we need nothing else but Him.
As you go about your day today, take a moment and reflect on your love for God. What is the driving force behind your love for God? Is there a way you can show God’s love through your actions today?
Prayer: Lord, I pray that my love for you may not only be based on what you have done, or what your capable of doing for me. I pray that the root of my love may come from the understanding of who you are. The God of creation, the God of my heart, and the God of my life. Let my love for you not only be shown in who I am but also in how I live. Amen.
