God's Glory

DAY 6 OF 13

Jesus lays down His glory

“And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” (John 17:5)

Jesus Christ is God. Therefore, He shares fully in God's glory. This was so before the world was created and it will remain so for all eternity. But in order to reconcile sinful people to Himself, He was willing to lay aside this glory for a time. He was born as a human being, and there was nothing special about Him. He looked like an ordinary Jewish man. Isaiah says that He had “no form or majesty” and therefore was despised by men.

Philippians 2 tells how deep Jesus' humiliation went: He became everyone's servant, submitted Himself to an unfair death sentence and died on a cross. Only after His mission was fully accomplished, did He take His glory again.

Fullness of grace in man's human frailty,
This is the wonder of Jesus.

Laying aside His power and glory,
Humbly He entered our world.

(Song ‘Fullness of Grace’ by Keith & Kristyn Getty)

Jesus went so far to save people! Do you honor Him for that?

About this Plan

God's Glory

The Bible speaks much of God's glory, expressed by the words כָּבוֹד (in Hebrew) and δόξα (in Greek). This is God’s heavenly splendor and majesty that sometimes becomes visible on earth. This reading plan will show you how great God is and how you as a believer can share in His glory.
