Possess the Promised Land

DAY 6 OF 7

God Keeps His Promises

“But you promised!”

Chances are, you have said those words. Maybe it was when someone disappointed you and didn’t follow through with their word. Broken promises leave us discouraged and destroy trust.

It’s easy to become disillusioned when we lump God in with flawed humans who can’t keep their every promise. But God wants to, can, and will fulfill His promises to us.

I am glad that God not only makes promises, but He keeps His promises.

I love how the book of Joshua puts it: “Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true” (Joshua 21:45).

Joshua tells us that every single one of God’s promises was fulfilled.

You might think, “Well, sure, these promises were for Israel, but what about us today?”

Not only are God’s promises for today, but you can trust that what God has promised, He will accomplish.

In fact, look at what Peter says in 2 Peter 1:4-5, “And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.”

Did you know that there are over 3,000 promises in Scripture? I encourage you to read God’s word to discover His many promises for you. Meditate on them, memorize them, and write them down. Don’t give up hope. He will never fail us.

Reflect:

Do you trust God’s promises or expect them to fail?

What promise of God are you holding onto?

What does God’s word say about what you are trusting Him for?
