DAY 7 OF 12

WORSHIPING IN STILLNESS

Stillness means to deliberately turn off the spiritual engines with their noises, withdraw from man’s set progressive goals, and to slip off from the spotlights into a place of quietness, tranquility, and peace where His dwelling is. After the day-to-day hustle and bustle of activity, Jesus made sure to find His strength in God during His daily meetings on the Mount of Olives or the solitary places where He would pray (Mark 1:35). Stillness also means an assurance and calmness of the soul that knows God is sovereign and in total control no matter what the situation looks like.

It was this eternally majestic stillness that Jesus slept in on the boat, which, even when woken up, amazed Him of their lack of faith and not the sweeping waves that could apparently topple His boat (Matt 6:30). Those that rest in knowledge of their God also rest in the fact that nothing can happen to them that God has not willed. It is this transcendent peace (Phil 4:7) that the author of confusion can never comprehend. Stillness is accompanied by revelation knowledge of the Lord and His eternal self-exalting purposes that all of hell has no power to influence. It is a place where words of prayer cease into perfect silent assurance. Anxiety and worry has to be often dealt with in the place of stillness.

“Our religious activities should be ordered in such a way as to have plenty of time for the cultivation of the fruits of solitude and silence.” - A.W. Tozer

“Faith ends where worry begins, and worry ends where faith begins.” - George Mueller
