The Send: A Life of Christ-Like Action

DAY 29 OF 30

For the first time in Mark’s gospel, someone has recognized Jesus as the son of God. After all of the healings, the teachings, the walking on water, and raising dead back to life, it is a Roman centurion staring at Jesus’ hanging corpse who suddenly understands who Jesus is. God’s glory is revealed on the cross.

Just before he died, Jesus cried out to God—“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” In his agony, he quotes the opening line of Psalm 22, a prayer of lament. Read this psalm in light of the story of Jesus’ death, and notice how it moves through suffering into deliverance and, finally, praise. Consider ending your time in God’s Word today by praying through this psalm and meditating on Jesus’ experience on the cross.

Reflection Questions:

  • How is God speaking to me through these verses?
  • What does this set of verses teach me about God?
  • What does this show me about the good news of Jesus?
  • How can I apply what I read today?
