Esther, Born for Such a Time as This

DAY 9 OF 28

Mordecai prevents an assault—this Scripture is quite special and is often overlooked. The servants of the king have taken Esther and all the other beautiful virgins to the palace so that the king could choose one to take the place of Queen Vashti. Eventually Esther was brought to the king, and he chose her to be his queen. He then gave a great banquet for all his nobles and officials, proclaimed a holiday throughout the land, and distributed gifts with royal generosity.

There were always people around King Ahasuerus who wanted to kill him; people who envied his power. It was for this reason Mordecai had warned Esther to never tell anyone about her background, since the Jews were a despised people. Every evening Mordecai sat in the king’s gate hoping to hear something from Esther. But one night he was not alone; there were also two officers guarding the doorway who were conspiring to assassinate King Ahasuerus. Mordecai heard them and told queen Esther to tell this to the king on his behalf, and so the assault on the king was prevented.

You may wonder why Mordecai would reveal this plot. Mordecai believed in the laws of God and wanted to be just. It could be that he also wanted to protect Esther, but his trust in God to do what is right was greater than anything else.

What about you? Do you trust God with all your heart? Do you surrender to the ways of the Lord, even when you would prefer to do something else? Do you find it hard to obey Him?

Prayer: Lord God, thank You so much for the revelation that trusting You is better and greater than my own desires. Thank You for Your help in situations where it is hard to surrender to Your will. Lead me and teach me to trust You more and more, because You are God, and everything will be alright as I walk through life, hand in hand with You!

About this Plan

Esther, Born for Such a Time as This

In this plan, we will take you through the book of Esther. We can admire Esther's courage, but we should see the whole picture: Esther, too, needed to be reminded of Who rules and that her life is in His hand. We pray that Esther's story inspires you to see God's hand in your life. God has intentionally placed you where you are for such a time as this.
