Year of the Bible: Part Three of Twelve

DAY 3 OF 30

God Provides for their needs.

Within weeks of leaving the oppression and slavery they had endured for 400 years in Egypt, the people of God started complaining about their new circumstances.

Their main complaints were being hungry and not having water, and they brought those complaints to Moses and Aaron. Wisely, the guys let them know that their complaint is with God, not with them. God was faithful, even when the people were faithless. He had done miracles in the Plagues, brought them out of Egypt with riches they had never had before, opened the Red Sea, and helped them escape on dry ground.

Yet, when things got tough, and they couldn't see how to provide for themselves, they complained and longed for their former captivity! God was so gracious to them and provided quail in the evening for meat, and in the morning, there was heavenly bread on the ground. Even with this miracle, they did not follow instructions, and some hoarded the provision.

God was actively providing food for them in a miraculous way, and they still did not trust Him!

Question: In what ways does your life parallel the life of the people in the wilderness? How has God provided for you? Are you still tempted to doubt that He wants to provide for your next need?

Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you remember His goodness and Faithfulness. Practice gratitude for all He has done, and confess in faith that you trust Him for all of your future needs. He is your provider and always will be.
