Adulting 101: 5 Tips to Success

DAY 4 OF 5

4. Don’t Eat Too Much Sugar.

You’re old enough now that you get it. Too much sugar and teeth rot, kids bounce, attention goes out the window. Any school teacher will tell you that the day after Halloween is a waste when kids come in high on sugar from the candy haul the night before. And now we’re finding that too much sugar leads to major health problems such as diabetes and obesity.

When the Bible talks about “training up a child in the way he should go” it was hinged on the cultural tradition of training the palate of a child. Giving him or her a taste of good, healthy things – so that she carried that appetite into her adult life, instead of an appetite for the unhealthy.

There’s something about limiting the junk in your life. Maybe for kids, it’s candy, but for adults, it may be the internet or social media or entertainment. There’s something about training your palate for good things that will lead to a blessed, full life.

“If you find honey, eat just enough-- too much of it, and you will vomit.” Proverbs 25:16 NIV
