Jehovah-Tsidkenu: The Lord, My Righteousness.

Praying through the names of God, as seen in the Bible, is a practice that will electrify your prayer life. Why? His names validate His promises. Just as praying to God as our Father reveals our position with Him and His heart for us as children, Scripture shares other names that showcase God’s character.

They might sound a little funny or hard to pronounce. But don’t worry, no one’s listening but God, and He won’t mind. I’ve prayed through these names countless times and in just about every place imaginable—even in my driveway. These names are powerful no matter where you are because they help us look up and not just in.

Following Jesus’ model, here’s how I’ve incorporated this into my prayer life. I say the name of God, what it means, and declare that action in my life. Just as God provided for Abraham, I believe His provision is for me. As He healed Moses, I believe His healing is for me. As He was David’s Shepherd, I believe He’s leading us still today. Each day in this plan, we’ll pray through a different name of God together.

Found twice in the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, the first name of God we will pray through together translates to “The LORD, my righteousness.”

“God, You make me clean! You wipe away my sin, guilt, and shame. You are perfect, and You have made a way for an imperfect person like me to be Your child. Thank you for the blood of Jesus that does for me what I could never do for myself.”
