Born Free: 16 Principles to Help You Be FreeSample
Principle 1: Nothing is Fair, Nothing is Perfect . . .
The first power principle is this: Nothing lasts. Nothing is fair, nothing is perfect, and you aren’t home yet. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). One of the great hindrances to Christian freedom are false expectations, the feeling that there is something magical about the Christian faith which will make the fallen world unfallen. Such thinking is the bane of Christian freedom. If you think things are going to work out, you are crazy. If you believe that your ship is going to come in, you will believe anything. If you expect that luck is going to smile on you all the time, and everything is going to be fine all the time, you are living in a dream world. If your expectations go beyond what one should expect in a fallen world, not only will you be disappointed, but you will think that the reason things don’t go according to expectations is that you have done something wrong. The truth is, the most painful experiences you endure do not result from God’s judgment. His grace is far bigger than that.
