Biblical Success - Running the Race of Life - Raising the Bar

DAY 3 OF 4

To seek is to look, search, or strive for something or someone beyond what we may know or have. Or to pursue an ideal or a place. Our focus scripture today urges us to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.” What do you suppose that means? As Christ-followers, we know our righteousness is found in our union with Jesus, which is established in our salvation. We can’t get “more saved.”We either are saved or we’re not. Let’s go a bit deeper.

Colossians 3:1 tells us If we are saved, or risen with Christ, to “seek those things that are above.” And verse 2 says to “set our minds on things above, not on things on earth.” Jesus told Pilate, “My Kingdom is not of this world.” (John 18:36) Where is Jesus” Kingdom?

Scripture describes two kingdoms; the kingdom of this world and The Kingdom of God. Our scripture focus today implies that we have a choice to “seek” one or the other by setting our mind on it. Setting our mind means to make a clear choice and to actively focus on it and pursue it. It doesn’t mean we will never deviate or lose our way, but if we should, we will course correct and get back after it. Jesus doesn’t always speak clearly and concisely, sometimes He uses parables and metaphors, but these quotes are clear and the questions they raise call for answers.

Will we store up treasures on earth or in heaven? Will we serve one Master or two or many? Will we strive to be the first who served God and money? We must choose, to not choose is to choose. We are all seeking something first, which is to say it’s more important to us than others that we don’t choose first. When Jesus says “Do” or Don’t” or “No one can” what do you think He means? What does it mean to you?
