7 Truths of Marriage: Bringing Sexy Back

DAY 1 OF 7

Sexy Dreams

The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. Proverbs 10:28 NLT

You thought we were talking about “those” dreams. Well, those aren’t bad either but let’s focus on the conscious desires seeded deep in our hearts. We all have dreams, and often those wants began long ago and continue manifesting themselves into our current lives in tangible ways.

“I always dreamed of marrying a doctor” was something people commonly said and associated with securing social and financial status. Maybe it was a childish fantasy or a real-life goal but, unhealthy attachments to dreams can become a corrupted inner vow or expectation.

Unmet expectations lead to diminished joy thanks to a feeling of having settled for something less than what you had dreamed of. Once distorted dreams dictate your personal narrative and no one would ever be able to meet your dream standard. Instead, understand those early dreams for what they were and, if necessary, trace them back to a source to see why they were once important.

It would help if you both talked about your dreams to see where the positive aspects can be facilitated. Maybe one of you has always dreamed of being a stay-at-home parent, while the other dreamt of a grand adventure. How’s that sexy? Great question.

Open communications about everything, including your deepest dreams, create avenues of trust which lead couples into heightened relational security. Making yourself vulnerable by sharing your heart often leads to intimacy. Imaging going after the joy of your dreams together can become what else? Sexy! The rest is up to you.

TRUE TALK:

Make the time to discuss each other’s dreams. Start by letting each other know how important each has the space to share. If possible, talk about how to make dreams become a reality.
