Managing Motherhood
Children are a gift from the Lord. Truly! The Bible tells us that children are indeed a heritage from our great Father in heaven. As Christian moms, we are called to train and raise up our children in the ways of the Lord. What a great responsibility we have as parents. The good thing is that we are not alone in the process of managing motherhood.
Parenting takes partnership. And sure, partnerships with your husband, family, and friends are great! Yet, with the help of the Bible mixed with the Holy Spirit, I would say, that’s a power-packed team effort while training up our kiddos.
Being a good steward over those whom God has entrusted to us requires balance and structure with our schedules. I love how the Proverbs 31 woman structured her day. She had a plan! The Bible shows us that her days started early and ended late (much like most of our days). She was a woman who took care of her household. She cooked, cleaned, delegated tasks, and even ran her own business. She managed her life and family well. What an exemplary woman!
Another great example from the Word of God is found in the book of Titus where it instructs us to train up younger women to love their husbands and children and to live wisely in our homes. It also guides us to be pure and to work in our home and do good. When we live in this manner, not only live by a good example to our own children, but also to other watching moms.
When we manage our motherhood well, it gives hope to moms who are watching us from a distance. They are watching how we speak to our children. They are listening to the type of advice we give to them whether they are younger or older. They are watching our affection. They are also watching how to train them up in the Word of God, but they are also trying to glean from our strategies.
As a mother of three children (15, 17, and 23 years of age), I know firsthand that managing motherhood takes strategy and structure. For many years, it was the daily delight of reading them Bible stories, taking them to church, and praying with and over them. But there was also the daily grind of cleaning, play dates, running around to all of the extracurricular activities, and disciplinary action to help them become responsible humans.
Without a doubt, motherhood is work! But it’s great and rewarding work. Motherhood can be managed well with prayer. It can be managed well with patience. It can be managed well with systems. Most importantly, it can be managed well with unconditional love. You’ve got this!
