Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck & How Surrender Sets You Free

DAY 1 OF 5

People may think you’ve got it together, but inside, you’re asking, “Am I enough?”. No matter how good we look to others, the nagging voice of self-doubt is hard to shake. We ask inner questions like:

If people really knew me would they still accept me?

Will I be rejected when I can’t perform?

Do I have what it takes to withstand this new season, circumstance, or assignment?

What if I fail?

Am I missing out on the life I am supposed to be living because I can’t shake this fear?

What if there was a way to remove the pent-up fear, to release crippling worry about unexpected and damaging activity erupting from within us, creating an irreversible landscape of “what ifs” and “if only's”? What if someone could point out a path to navigate that barren landscape of nagging self-doubt and direct us to the promised land of abundant life?

What if we could cease striving and surrender our endless cycles of frenetic performance?

Scripture offers us a life to examine: Moses. A monumental biblical figure. You might be familiar with his story. Born of Hebrew parents when Hebrews were slaves of the Egyptians. Hidden by his parents to escape the order for newborn Hebrew males to be put to death. Sent down the Nile River to be pulled out of the water by no less than the Pharaoh’s daughter. Raised in privilege, educated in the ways of a great civilization, yet aware of his heritage. As an adult, saw a Hebrew mistreated by an Egyptian and, enraged, killed the Egyptian, incurring the wrath of Pharaoh. So he runs away. He chooses to stay away from Egypt, the land of his upbringing and seems to be content with a life of obscurity, tending sheep. But God doesn’t allow him to stay there. He appears to Moses– you’ve heard of the burning bush– and begins to speak to him about His plans.

Questions:

Which inner nagging question resonated with you most deeply? Why do you think this is so?

Personal Prayer:

Jesus, help me hear your voice above all others. Help me believe what you say about me. Help me follow you fully to the places you have planned for me.

Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck & How Surrender Sets You Free

No matter how good we look to others, the nagging voice of self-doubt is hard to shake. We wonder: If people really knew me would they still accept me? Will I be rejected when I can't perform? What if I end up alone? If you find yourself having thoughts like these, join Erica Wiggenhorn for 5 days in the story of Moses and find what happens when we surrender.
