Jesus People: A 6-Day Devotional by Danny GokeySample
ALL ARE WELCOME: Sharing the call to come!
As I highlighted in yesterday’s entry, we are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). That is the one thing we must remember as we encounter others, especially when forces in the world seek to divide us. No matter where we stand socially, politically, or economically here on earth, the bottom line is we, as Christians, are actually citizens of a heavenly kingdom (Philippians 3:20 NLT), and that is the way we should live our lives.
“We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace" (1 Chronicles 29:15 NLT). So, what are we called to do with the time while we’re here? We are called to appeal to those who don’t know Christ, so they may be saved from their prisons of sin, death, and destruction!
Come come
The spirit & bride say come
He’s calling his daughters
He’s calling his sons
To return to the Father’s great love
Come, yes come
There’s room at the table for everyone
And all are welcome
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17
Both the Spirit and the Bride call all to come. Who is the Bride? According to 2 Corinthians 11:2, we are! We are called to tell everyone about the gift of salvation that has been so freely given to us (John 4:14).
Isaiah 6 gives us another beautiful glimpse of heaven. The prophet sees the Lord sitting on a throne in the Temple and hears Him ask “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?" (v. 8). Isaiah responds, “Here I am. Send me.” That is the question God is still asking of us today, pleading we speak on His behalf. What will our response be? It is such a great honor and privilege we have to be not only His mouthpiece but also His hands and feet. “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7).
The incredible thing is that this “good news” is available to everyone, just like it promises in Romans 10:11-13. “‘ANYONE who believes in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of ALL and richly blesses ALL who call on him, for, “EVERYONE who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (emphasis added).
However, it goes on to say, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" (Romans 10:14). That’s where we come in.
Are we willing to let our lives be interrupted in obedience to the call of Christ? Are we willing to be His mouthpiece? His hands? His feet? People are desperate for the hope we have to offer. The Father has opened His table. Will we open our hearts to share the invitation?
About this Plan
It can seem like everything is trying to pull us down and pull us apart. Jesus’ words offer hope to those who have lost their way, bringing the broken and hurting together. This 6-Day Bible Plan and the "Jesus People" album by Danny Gokey reminds us of the unconditional love and truth of God that unites us and has the power to change our lives if we let it!
