Rewrite: A Marriage Devotional by Vance K. JacksonSample
Tainted.
According to Leviticus 15:30 KJV, this woman was socially ostracized, and under Levitical law, she was “spiritually tainted.” According to Levitical law, a woman with an “issue of blood” was considered unclean until a priest cleared her and declared her clean.
Think about the emotional pressure this woman must have faced when she decided to step out on faith to press beyond the crowds, knowing that she was considered “unclean.” Think about the whispers and the chatter that others were saying about her as she pressed through the crowds. Think about the physical, emotional, financial, psychological, and social barriers she had to overcome in order to reach Jesus.
Mark 5:27–28 KJV declares, “When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” There is no record that explains why she decided to touch the garment of Jesus. There were no written instructions on how to access Jesus. This woman went beyond the norm and decided that she wanted to get her healing. Sometimes, you have to press and rewrite what’s normal.
Maybe, you have crowds around you, and on the outside, your marriage “looks” fine, but on the inside, your marriage has some internal “issues,” and it’s bleeding from the inside out. In fact, as time passes—it’s getting worse.
Maybe, you’ve been searching for answers and solutions in order to make your marriage whole. It is my prayer that as you pray together and read God’s Word—you press for your marriage together. Choose to ignore the crowds. Ignore the whispers. Ignore the naysayers and let God rewrite every aspect of your marriage.
God rewrote the story of the woman with the issue of blood, and He can rewrite your story as well. The only person who can make you whole is Jesus Christ.
Notice what happened immediately after the woman connected with Christ. Mark 5:30 KJV declares, “And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?”
The Amplified Version expounds upon Mark 5:30 AMPC in the following manner, “And Jesus, recognizing in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around immediately in the crowd and said, Who touched My clothes?”
The woman with the issue of blood accessed power from Jesus. Virtue had left from Jesus and flowed into the woman with the issue. Through Jesus Christ, there is virtue for your marriage. Through Jesus Christ, there is power for your marriage. Through Jesus Christ, there is power for your issues. Through Jesus, there is restoration for your family. When you pull on the power of Jesus Christ, He can make you whole. Let Christ in.
