DAY 4 OF 5

But God: While We Were Still Sinners

Ephesians 2 is a glorious chapter. Verse 4, in particular, is incredibly encouraging. "But God being rich in mercy..."

God shows His believers mercy because of His great love. We have been made alive together with Christ!

We certainly aren't worthy of his mercy. We have, time and time again, disobeyed his commands and sinned against a holy God. We do it every day. We need forgiveness every day and God supplies it through his mercy. That's His nature.

His love has given us eternal life despite our sin against Him. He would be justified in sending every person to hell, yet, He doesn't. As a Holy creator, He chooses to save.

A few keywords jump out when reading Ephesians 2:4-5.

Mercy: The definition of mercy is not getting what we deserve, but rather, something far better than we can imagine—the opposite of what we deserve. We deserve hell. However, God is merciful and gives us eternal life.

Great love: Thankfully, God had so much love for us that despite the hardness of our hearts, He made way for us.

Made us alive: We were dead in our trespasses. Only the power of God could have made us alive.

By grace, you have been saved: Grace is when we receive something we don't deserve. We don't deserve his grace, but He's merciful enough to give it to us. That's the kind of God we serve.

Reflect on God's goodness!
