P. R. A. Y. Pause. Reflect. Ask. Yield.

DAY 2 OF 5

REFLECT & REJOICE

Let’s practice pausing again. Pause; breathe deeply; remember the who and why of your life and service.

When things are hard, pausing to reflect on the  ‘good’ about a person or situation can shift the ‘bad’. When a baby just won’t stop crying or a toddler refuses to listen (or whatever your 'bad' may be), focusing on the way someone has helped you or a sweet moment you’ve had with a difficult adult or child can shake loose something in your frustration or hopelessness.

Reflection can bring a different perspective to problems, even if they don’t disappear.

As we read in the Psalms, God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and filled with unfailing love. One translation says, abounding in love. He does not deal harshly with us, even if we deserve it. His grace and compassion are free gifts to us and to those we’re serving.

In Philippians, we find more truth about God. He is near, so we don’t need to be anxious as we bring requests to Him, give thanks, or rejoice in the smallest things. Notice how the author repeatedly encourages us to rejoice!

God's peace can transcend even the hardest situation. If we reflect on these truths, rejoicing even in the tough times, we can experience true peace in the midst of frustration or sadness. We aren’t promised that the hard time or discomfort will disappear, but we are promised that God is near and will provide peace.

REFLECTION

How have you seen God’s graciousness and "abounding love" in your life?

Have you ever stopped to reflect and see His goodness in a hard time?

What are the little things that have made your heart rejoice lately?

For a few moments, pause again and continue your conversation with God. Thank Him for His nearness and peace. Ask Him to help you feel it and to experience His “abounding love” today.

About this Plan

P. R. A. Y. Pause. Reflect. Ask. Yield.

In a fast-paced and frenzied world, it's important to take time each day to Pause, Reflect, Ask, and Yield (P.R.A.Y.); to slow down and breathe in the blessings of the Spirit; to set our hearts and eyes on Jesus and to join with the Lord in pouring compassion on his beloved children.
