Knowing & Loving the Trinity

DAY 3 OF 4

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for humbling yourself for my sake. Thank you for taking on the form of a man and dying in my place. There is no being as loving as you. I pray that I will understand more of your love every day.

Knowing and Loving the Son

“Who is Jesus Christ?” is arguably the most important question we can ask ourselves. After all, our eternity depends on it! Some believe that Jesus was a prophet, a revolutionary, a self-help guru, or a fraud. However, it is very reasonable to believe that he was who he said he was, the Son of God, God in the flesh. Jesus Christ was threatened with stoning for claiming to be God. He was worshipped by many on earth, yet he did not deny it. In John 8:58, he claimed to have existed even before Abraham!

Theologian and scholar C.S. Lewis summed it up like this: “either Jesus is a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.” Jesus Christ is indeed God. And yet, for our sake, he left the glory and beauty of heaven with the Father, humbling himself and allowing himself to be threatened, rejected, and despised for these claims of deity. How beautiful and mysterious is this incarnation!

Look in the Word:

  1. Read John 10:22-31. Why do you think Jesus chose to appear as a man like he did?
  2. Read John 1:1-3,14. Why do you think Jesus is also referred to as the Word of God?
  3. Read Hebrews 1:1-3 and Colossians 2:9. How do these verses help us understand the deity of Jesus?

What’s Next?

  1. Ask yourself: in what ways do I need to shift my thinking on how I view Jesus Christ? What do I say is true about him?
  2. What does it say about the character of God, that he would humble himself to appear as a man for us?
  3. The next time you pray, try and humble yourself before God like he humbled himself for us. Try praying on your knees, thanking God for His forgiveness, praising God for his sacrifice and for loving you. Worship kneeling before him or with your hands out in adoration.
