Fruit of the SpiritSample
Living by the Spirit
For the past nine days, we have studied the fruit of the Spirit as Paul describes it in Galatians 5. His conclusion is that “those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit”. Keeping in step with the Spirit is thus not a prerequisite for being saved; it is a logical consequence of belonging to Christ Jesus.
Believers do not try their best to display the fruit of the Spirit in order to earn God’s love. We can do nothing to earn his favor, we are only saved by free grace. Faith is the key towards a relationship with God, and if we are living with him we will be changed from within “by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us” (2 Timothy 1:14). By his power, we are no longer enslaved to sin (Romans 6:6) but are free to live according to God’s will.
