It Starts with Your Inner Life

There is a life that is so much better than the best life you can ever imagine. This life is the kind of life that only Jesus Christ can give you right now, not just later when you die. This life is available only through faith in Jesus. What kind of life is this anyway? When we speak of life, we may refer to two realities: one is visible while the other is invisible. The visible life is, of course, your outward life, like the things that you say, do, accomplish, achieve, accumulate, etc. It may be positive or it may be negative. That's what you and others see. It’s easy to measure this kind of life because everyone (including you) can see it. You may be happy with it, especially if it looks successful, or you may feel miserable about it, especially if you see yourself failing in some or all areas.

But the other life is invisible. It's called your inner life. The Bible refers to this as your “soul.” This part of you is essential. Our outer life will pass away, but this life will last forever. This life is hidden from view, sometimes even from you, but it is never hidden from God. This life is always open and transparent before God. If this life is lost, you lose the very essence of life itself. Outward success, no matter how attractive it might be, is nothing compared to the loss of your soul. Jesus came to give us real life, the God kind of life that is connected to Him, empowered by Him, and lived through Him for His glory. It all starts with your inner life. This is the essential life that matters first of all. It’s the kind of life that will last forever. Everything else will pass away. Pay attention to your inner life. That's where it all begins.
