Day 4: Moving Mountains
2 Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are adequate in ourselves so as to consider anything as having come from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” (NASB, emphasis added).
Moving mountains has nothing to do with how big your faith is. Moving mountains is all about how big your God is. To have this in proper perspective, we have included two pictures in today’s reading. The first is the picture of the mustard seed. Look how small the mustard seed is. Jesus is saying, that seed is not minimized in potential even though it is small in size. When the mustard seed is planted, it becomes a huge tree. Now look at the tree in the second picture, look at how big it is. That enormous tree came from that small seed.
Therefore, if I can plant my mustard seed of faith in God, it unleashes a huge limitless potential that can move mountains. When you have the mustard seed of faith in God, you give God room to be God. The first indispensable mustard seed of faith is, listen to God.
Psalm 85:8: “I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying...” (emphasis added).
How can you build a life of faith if you do not know the Word? How can you know the Word if you do not listen carefully? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The challenge is, most times we do not listen because we assume we know. Do not assume. Listen – just listen!
The second indispensable mustard seed of faith is prayer. You have to tell God what you want and Who you see Him to be. Note that when it comes to moving mountains, listening to God comes before praying. You have to listen to God first, before you start to pray. Do not just jump into praying and commanding. Listen first and let God speak to you. The mountains do not move to your instruction, the mountains move to His instructions, in His time and way. Our job is to believe Him and trust Him.
Meditation: What would you like to talk to God about based on today’s study?
