Don't Drift Through Life

DAY 1 OF 5

Let God Be Your Anchor.

“If a man knows not to which port he sails, no wind is favourable.” Seneca

When a boat is not anchored, it drifts with the current. The distance between Egypt and Canaan (The Promised Land) is about 250 miles (402 Kilometres). Think about travelling such a distance and how long it will take you to arrive at your destination. Perhaps, if you are travelling at 100km/h, it will take you about 4 hours. But guess what, the same distance took the Israelites 40 years to complete, a journey of about 11 days by foot. A life that is not totally submitted to God and His leadings will only keep travelling in circles.

The Israelites witnessed the parting of the Red Sea, Manna falling from heaven, Quails falling from the sky, by day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud and by night in a pillar of fire, for forty years their clothes and sandals did not wear out, but yet, none of these miracles appeals to the Israelites.

Out of the hundreds of thousands that left Egypt with Moses, only two (Joshua and Caleb) made it to the Promised Land. Why? They murmured, they complain, they doubt God, they put God to test, they even blame Moses for coming to their rescue, and little by little, they all died in the wilderness. If there is one thing God cannot or will not do, it is choosing our attitude. Attitude is not a gift; it’s a choice. The question is, how are we different from the Israelites today?

How fast we go in life is irrelevant if we arrive at the wrong destination.

Wrong roads never lead to right destination irrespective of the pace you are travelling. Let God sail your ship; let Him take you by hand as you surrender in obedience. It’s never too late to start afresh with God.

We are not created to go through life guess-working. Isaiah 30:21 NIV says, “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you, a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.” Life only becomes frustrating and confusing when we shift our focus away from God. We need to hold on to God’s Word and promises, just as the Psalmist says, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 NIV. While God does not promise us a smooth sailing journey, He promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

Every product has a manual, and the manual for life is the Word of God. Let God be your anchor, your guide, and your compass. Submit totally to him.

About this Plan

Don't Drift Through Life

When a boat is not anchored, it drifts with the current. None of us should go through life wandering. Did you know that a journey of eleven days took the Israelites 40 years to complete? This devotional will help you understand how to live a life anchored on God and His promises.
