Under Construction: Lessons From the Book of Haggai

DAY 2 OF 18

God speaks by prophets

Haggai is introduced as a prophet who passes on the words of the Lord. He was not the only prophet mentioned in the Bible; in fact, the major part of the Old Testament consists of prophetic messages. Some of these contain revelations of future events, for example about a coming Savior who would reconcile God and man, or about God’s coming judgment on Israel and other nations.

But prophets did not only announce new things. They also were “spiritual quality managers”, who checked whether the people and their leaders were living according to God’s will. The Lord had given them His constitution and ordered them “to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13) It was a task of the prophets to remind the people of these commandments and to call them to repentance if they had been unfaithful to the Lord. That’s exactly what Haggai was doing in his book, and the people listened to him.

Are you open to correction and teaching regarding your life style or your walk with the Lord?

About this Plan

Under Construction: Lessons From the Book of Haggai

The book of Haggai is certainly not the best-known book of the Bible. It only has two chapters and is about rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, which is not a major topic of interest for present-day Christians. But when we read carefully and attentively, this book contains valuable lessons for believers from all centuries and from all over the planet.
