The Perfect You

DAY 3 OF 9

Do You Need More?

We’re often exhorted to seek God when we’ve already found Him. After all, that was Jesus’ evangelistic promise: “Seek, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). We have found Him!

We’re also told to hunger and thirst for more of God. But, Jesus said the opposite: He said if we ate of Him, we would never hunger again. He said if we drank of Him, we would never thirst again (John 6:35).

Likewise, we’ve been told to try to love God more, while Ephesians tells us we already have an undying love for God (Ephesians 6:24).

The bottom line is that you don’t need anything new, anything different, or anything more. You don’t need to look outside yourself for something external to make its way inside you. Instead, you can look within to your new-hearted self where Christ dwells. Right there, you have everything you need (2 Peter 1:3) because you have Him.

With your new heart, you genuinely desire God Himself. Of course, you don’t always feel or act that way, but you do always desire Him. As a descriptive statement of who you are—you always love God, and you always love others. Your new-hearted self never changes.

What this means is nothing short of remarkable. It means you don’t need to be pressured, enticed, or manipulated into loving or serving others. As Romans 6:17 says, you have an obedient heart. You have a loving heart. You have a servant’s heart. You partake of God’s divine nature (2 Peter 1:4; Romans 5:5). A person like that doesn’t need to be pushed into loving others.

It’s simply who you are.
