Real Hope: The Road to the CrossSample
DEATH
Can you imagine this moment in history? Can you picture yourself within the setting of Calvary as a disciple of Jesus? The Middle Eastern noon-day sun is all but darkness. Jesus, your teacher, your friend, your leader, the one who you thought was going to bring liberation and freedom to your nation, is hanging on the captors’ cross. Taking His last breath, He commits His Spirit to the Father. Your heart is racing, your palms are sweaty, your mind is foggy, and then for a brief moment there is all but silence followed by a violent shaking of the earth. What would you do?
It is easy with hindsight to say ‘Do not worry’, because we know the end of the story – but I can only imagine that Jesus’ disciples were confused, afraid and exhausted. Maybe you have experienced or are currently going through a challenge that is causing you to feel just like the disciples did: confused, afraid and exhausted.
Can I encourage you? The same God who worked through the darkness and confusion of the cross, to bring about a profound and life-giving end, can work through the darkness and confusion that you may be facing. If it’s not good, then it’s not final!
The first-century Roman cross, which was a symbol of scorn, shame and oppression, is now a symbol of freedom and life.

About this Plan
Every year, Christians from around the world pause and reflect on the final hours of our Saviour’s life – to take time to be still and sit in the moments of pain, sacrifice, forgiveness and love written for us in the Gospels - so that we can understand the gravity and cost of the gift given to us through Christ.
