Justice

DAY 5 OF 30

FAVORITISM

James talks about the faith that requires not showing partiality. Unfair partiality means to please someone, because he is rich or influential or popular. New Testament constantly condemns this fault. The Greek expression is Prosopotempsia - The noun comes from the expression Prosopon lambanein. Prosopon is the face; and lambanein here means to lift up. This is a literal translation of a Hebrew phrase. ”To lift up a person's countenance was to regard him with favor, in contradistinction perhaps to casting down his countenance.”Our status and what we accomplish in this world will not change one's standing in the sight of God. (Romans 2:11, Ephesians 6:9). Making class distinction should not exist in Christian fellowship. If we do so we are breaking the commandment in Matthew 7:1 -”Judge not, that you be not judged.” Therefore our charity should not have any strings attached.

Dear God,
Search us out to see if there is any unclean thing in us. Banish from us an unmerciful spirit of shallow favoritism, and make us to be those who in their relationships, even with strangers, show the love of Christ. We ask you to help us never to forget that faith without works is dead. - Amen

Although I am a typical loner in daily life, my consciousness of belonging to the invisible community of those who strive for truth, beauty, and justice has preserved me from feeling isolated.

About this Plan

Justice

My inspiration for this 30 days Devotional is from prolonged theological discourses on Justice. My burning desire is to see that the Church becomes catalyst to stop violence against the poor. I am also grateful to Organizations who work relentlessly to secure Justice for the poor.
