The Influencers Responsibility: How Our Likes, Followers, and Subscribers Can Have Eternal Significance

DAY 4 OF 4

Google tells us that the word influence means, “the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.” This tells me that being an Influencer is not really about how many likes, followers, or subscribers we have, but instead our ability to transform lives. This is especially true for those of us that are Followers of Jesus. For us, influence is about the people we lead to becoming more like Christ and less like culture, just as Galatians 3:28 expresses.

Jesus, being the perfect example, showed us exactly how to be an influencer for the kingdom on this side of heaven.

He cared about the 5,000 just as much as he cared about the 1.

He addressed the needs of people on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

He pointed people to the Father and the promise of life found in Him.

He didn’t neglect his own spiritual nurturing in an attempt to build others.

He was the ultimate influencer.

As we spend time reading God's word, we learn so much about Jesus's nature as an influencer. What is even more amazing is that because we are transformed by the word, as we read the word and ask God to change us, his nature will become our nature because we will know what his nature looks like.

I remember a time when there was a Christian coach I wanted to work with. She didn't have a big name at the time, nor did she have a huge social media following. Yet something drew me to her. I followed her on social media and participated in some of her less risky opportunities. Eventually, I made the big leap into a deeper connection with her. When I look back at that time, I realize that I was never drawn to her fame or success, I was drawn to her genuine heart to serve others and her passion for living out God's assignment for her life.

If we choose to be led by the heart and character of Christ as an influencer, others will be drawn and transformed by the gift he has given us to steward.

I truly believe that as we allow our influence to be shaped by the ultimate influencer, it will have earthly substance and even greater eternal significance.
