Effective Prayer

DAY 6 OF 9

Prayer of the Widow – Persistent and Determined

What caused the widow to pray?

The parable narrated by Jesus talks about a Judge who was a very wicked man and a widow whose rights were being violated. The widow was alone and did not have anyone to support her. She was therefore vulnerable and many people took advantage of her helpless situation. The widow wanted what belonged to her - her right – to be protected and to be able to live in peace.

How did the widow plead her cause?

She asked confidently:
The widow asked irrespective of the reputation of the judge who was corrupt and callous.
She prayed with faith:
She had the faith that she will eventually receive what was hers in spite of the judge ignoring her for a long time. She didn’t give up.
She prayed persistently:
She kept asking for her justice whenever she found the opportunity to ask even to the point that the Judge was afraid to dismiss her anymore.

How can we model the widow in our prayers?

We should pray with the confidence in our God who is just and will not slack or drag His feet in doing good for us. He will give us, His people, justice and freedom from our enemies, no matter how many come against us. God answers our prayers in due season at the correct time. Therefore, delays in God’s responses to our prayers are not denials to our request. When you pray, ask in faith, believing that you have received it, and it will be yours. Sometimes the answers to our prayers do not reach us quickly because they are hindered by our enemies. In spite of that, we should believe that God is on our side and will take up our cause. Ask continually because God, unlike the earthly Judge, is not fed up of our asking. God will either change your circumstance or he’ll change your perspective of the situation. His will for us is always better than our own plans for us. Verbalize your requests, seek His will and knock on the God-directed opportunities. You will receive, you will find and prayers will be answered.

About this Plan

Effective Prayer

Haven't we all started a relationship with a word, maybe ignited by a thought or an action? Haven't we also wanted to be heard in a group or in one on one interactions? In this plan, you will be shown how different people in the Bible shared personal relationships with God and therefore approached Him for different reasons. In addition to hearing their prayers, God answered them and blessed their lives, and a new relationship begins with God and so does a new journey with God!
