14 Days to Integrating Faith and Fitness

DAY 4 OF 14

Do the Next Right Thing

“Pick up that bar,” my coach told me as I found myself hunched over, gasping for air. He knew that I needed to keep moving in order to finish the workout. I didn’t have to set new records and impress the whole class. I just needed to keep moving in the right direction.

Proverbs 21:3 tells us that “doing what is right and just” is “more acceptable” than any sort of sacrifice you’d make for God. Doing what’s right is more holy than anything you’d give up for Jesus, than attending church every week, than joining a small group Bible study. Living with integrity is more important than checking a religious box (Isaiah 1:11-18).

A life that lacks integrity isn't a life worth following. But a life with character is. A life without integrity leaves people confused as to what your deepest values in life truly are. So live in a way that leaves no question as to who your God truly is. Don’t simply do the right thing as a way of making atonement for the attitudes and behaviors you’ve developed. Jesus has already made your atonement (1 Peter 2:24)! Seek to do what is right and just because you’ve been deeply loved by God himself.

Time to pick up that bar. Let’s keep this workout going.
