Real Hope: The Attributes of GodSample
God Is Faithful
What does it mean to be faithful? Your mind might jump to traditional wedding vows, when the couple is asked: ‘Will you, forsaking all others, be faithful to her/him as long as you both shall live?’ Or, perhaps you think of the nature of a pet dog, walking alongside you as a faithful companion. Perhaps being faithful is signing a contract to confirm you will see out the agreement decided upon, and ultimately uphold your end of the deal.
As we read through the Bible, again and again we see the faithfulness of God. The entire Bible is one big story of God’s faithfulness, as He keeps His promises.
The above passage in 1 Corinthians reminds the church in Corinth that God is faithful. And if you look at what follows in the chapter, Paul points out the divisions within the church. There’s a real contrast here: God is faithful, even when we are not. What a relief to know that God’s faithfulness doesn’t rest on our actions. And yet, we can rejoice in knowing that the promise is that God will strengthen us to the end. Think about that for a second. Those who call Him Lord have security because of His nature – because of who He is! This should give us hope, especially when we feel like we can’t see Him at work in the day to day.
What comfort do you find in the faithfulness of God?
