The Sandwich Generation Sample

The Sandwich Generation

DAY 2 OF 4

Each person in a family is unique, so each person experiences change in a unique way. With Lynn and Kimberly, it was their daughter who struggled with the change. I love how they reached out to others to help them adjust to this transition.

Sometimes we hesitate to let others help when we go through difficult times. Look at it this way. By not including others, you may not only be hurting your family, but also depriving someone of using the gifts God gave them to help. It is letting someone else help you carry the burden.

We will also find that there are questions no one will have a good answer for. The questions,  “why us?” “why now?” and “is this fair?” are real, but satisfying answers are elusive. However, this family experienced God’s strength to do something that they could never have done on their own.

After watching the video, answer the questions below.

  • In your family, who struggles the most with change?
  • If you were in Lynn and Kimberly’s situation, who would you reach out to for help?
  • Is there anything that would keep you from seeking help?
  • How do you deal with the questions “why us?” and  “why now?” in your life today?
  • When have you relied on God’s strength to do something you could not do on your own?

About this Plan

The Sandwich Generation

Research estimates nearly half of adults are assisting a parent AND raising a young child or supporting a grown child. If that’s you, welcome to the club. In this plan by Dr. Kim, we meet Lynn and Kimberly, who have two children plus a parent living with them. They felt God leading them to open their home to Kimberly’s dad. We’ll look at the challenges and blessings of this decision.
