How to Receive a Whole New Self-ImageSample
What Are You Worth?
Any real estate agent will tell you that no matter what you think, your house is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. That’s not a bad maxim. The market sets the price.
So when it comes to you, what are you worth?
The world out there often wants to discount your worth. The world out there tells us what beautiful, talented, successful and popular look like. But I’ve never been able to measure up to all those images of what I should be. How about you?
As a result, we end up with self-doubt, feeling inadequate because we can never measure up. Self-doubt is an awful thing. I don’t mean that we should all be full of ourselves. But we should be delighted with who we are—realistic about our limitations, and prepared to learn and grow and develop, for sure—while still comfortable in the skin we’re in.
Chances are that if you’re not comfortable with who you are, you’ve been listening to what the world has to say about you, and not what God says.
After all, like a house, you are worth what someone is prepared to pay for you.
Philippians chapter 2 reveals that God was prepared to pay for you with the life and death of His own Son, Jesus.
Now if Jesus was just a man, that would be stunning enough. But although Jesus was a man, He wasn’t just a man. He was much, much more. He was and is God!
There is literally no way to measure what Jesus is worth. And He was crucified and laid behind a stone for you. He died, rejected and alone, for you. This Jesus, whose worth is immeasurable, placed you above all else. Even above Himself.
Do you know what that makes you? Absolutely priceless! Do you get it? What the world tells you you’re worth, what other people tell you you’re worth, doesn’t hold a candle to what you’re really worth!
So whenever you feel inadequate, worthless, unable to measure up to the illusions of beauty, wealth, and success that the world demands; whenever you start to discount your worth, my prayer is that you will believe what God says about you through the cross of Christ. Don’t fall for the lies that this world would spread about you.
You are priceless. Your value can’t be measured. Believe it. It’s true.
