Rise Up & Stand Firm—A Study of 1 Peter (Part 4)Sample

Rise Up & Stand Firm—A Study of 1 Peter (Part 4)

DAY 2 OF 5

The End is Near. Therefore … and Above All …

We’re nearing the end of our study. Press on! Let’s get ready to dig into God’s Word.

Pray:

Holy Spirit, thank You for Your living Word. Please teach me from it today.

Today’s Goal:

Our goal today is to learn how we can glorify Christ Jesus.

Study Tip:

For further study, consider looking up some key words in Scripture in their original language for a fuller understanding of what they mean.

Read and Write:

As you read 1 Peter 4:7-11, prepare to take notes.

  • “The end of all things is near.” What compelling words! Why do you think Peter expressed such an urgent and alarming message?
  • In light of “the end,” what does Peter tell us to do in order to pray? __________________________ and _____________________________.
  • Now that the importance of prayer is covered, Peter stresses what is most important before we depart this world: Above all, Christians are urged to love. How are we told to love, and what does love do?
  • The adjective Peter uses to describe the kind of love we are to give is the Greek word ektenes. It means intense, strenuous, constant, and zealous. Together the root words ek and tenes mean “to stretch wholly out.” This is a love that pours out to its fullest potential! What two examples of love (in verses 9 and 10) does Peter give?
  • Significantly, the Greek word hospitality actually means “loving strangers.” With this in mind, how might these Christian exiles apply this exhortation?

Reflect:

  • What does Peter say is the purpose of these kinds of God-empowered love?
  • How might you use your gifts to serve others?

Apply:

  • Based on today’s lesson, how will you rise up and stand firm?
